Remnants of Atomic junction gas explosion last year

Some fuel stations at Mankessim which were closed down by a task force led by the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Mfantsiman, Kenneth Kelly Essuman have been reopened.

The fuel stations resumed operation on Friday after providing evidence of documents granting them the permit to operate.

They are; Shell, GOIL, Dukes and Engine.

Mr. Essuman Monday October 9, 2017 ordered the closure of the aforementioned stations in his municipality for failing to produce certificates authenticating their operation within the area.

They failed to produce on demand, their fire certificates, certificate to operate and certificates from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

According to the MCE his action was hinged on last week’s gas explosion at Atomic Junction in Accra which claimed seven lives with over 130 others suffering various degrees of injuries and that he was only taking steps to ensure the safety of lives and properties within his area.

The four fuel stations, he stated in an interview with Starr News, were allowed to resume operation after submitting their documents and working permits.

He pledged to routinely check on fuel stations to ensure they work under safe conditions in his jurisdiction.
