A 22-year-old woman has drowned while attempting to save a drowning 10-year-old boy at Asuogyaman in the Eastern region.
Abigail Mensah Oklu was reportedly returning from the market when she saw the infant drowning in a running drainage around the Akosombo-Combine community area during a rainfall which lasted for an hour.
The two died in the drainage.
A search party later retrieved the bodies and were subsequently deposited at the morgue by the Police.
The Asuogyaman District Director of NADMO, Love Joy Dusi who confirmed the incident to Starr News explained that “according to the mother of the deceased boy, he returned from School and was playing on the corridor, then unsuspectedly, according to the mother he couldn’t find the boy again so she came out looking for him, it was later on when a source told her that a sister, who is the second victim, was returning from market when she saw the boy being carried away by the rainwater in the gutter so she attempted to save the boy in the gutter but was also carried away too”.
He said the Organization has intensified public awareness on safety measures during rainfall.
She also advised parents to keep an eye on their children especially during rainfall to ensure that they don’t play in the rains.
