The High Court in Accra has dismissed a suit by lawyer Maxwel Opoku-Agyemang asking the court to restrain his fellow lawyer Thaddeus Sory and his law firm, Sory@Law from representing the Electoral Commissioner, Mrs Charlote Osei in person.

According to the court presided over by Justice Kweku Tawiah Ackaah-Boafo, there was no conflict of interest on the part of Sory as a counsel for the EC and also for Mrs Osei as was alleged by the applicant.

It was the case of Lawyer Opoku-Agyemang , who has been sued by the EC boss for defamation that, Mr Sory and his law firm Sory@law would be in a conflict of interest if allowed to represent the EC boss.

But, the court in a near one hour ruling said, if anything at all, it was the commission that could make an allegation of conflict of interest and not the applicant. A cost of Gh¢5,000 was also awarded against Mr Opoku-Agyemang.

Mr Opoku-Agyemang initiated a legal action at the Accra High Court seeking to stop Mr Sory, from representing the EC chairperson in a defamation case.

On July 25, 2017, Mrs Osei sued Mr Opoku-Agyemang for defamation and professional misconduct in the court.

That was after the leakage of a 27-page petition to the Presidency calling for her impeachment, said to be from some workers of the EC represented by Mr Opoku-Agyemang.
