Seven suspected criminals made up of armed robbers and drug peddlers have been rounded up by the Central regional police.

The suspects who have been operating in Cape Coast, Winneba and the Kasoa area were arrested in a swoop by the police Tuesday.

They are seen as kingpins who have been terrorizing residents in such areas with many suffering various degrees of injuries aside loss of their valuables.

The arrest, according to the Central regional police commander COP Rev. Nenyi Ampa Bennin is a product of an earlier operation launched by the regional police command dubbed “Hit Hard” which was essentially to organise periodic swoops at some identified hot spots to arrest criminals who operate in such areas.

The suspected criminals are; Godwin Ameka, 23, Prince Owusu, 27, Kwaku Amoako, 29, Samuel Boafo, 34, and Baba Gariba.

The rest are Eric Sackey, 25, Samuel Ofei, 24.

Items seized included three Taxi Cabs, 3 Pregnant Goats, Laptops, Phones, Guns, unspecified amount of money and substances suspected to be narcotic drugs.

Addressing the media in Cape Coast, COP Ampa Bennin pledged his commitment to make the region risky for criminals to operate so residents could go about their activities peacefully and freely.

He therefore called on residents to volunteer information that will lead to the arrest of the criminals adding that the police cannot do it all.

He also urged residents who have suffered theft and robbery to report at the police to help identify their items.
