A Security Analyst has urged the Interior Minister to stop talking and start taking practical steps against vigilante groups in the country.

Ambrose Dery on Monday pledged to quit if he fails to crush all vigilante groups in the country in the next couple of months.

The Interior Minister on Tuesday, October 31, also threatened to sanction Regional Police Commanders who allow criminals operating under Political labels to breach the peace of the country.

The Minister’s commentary is linked to the growing spate of violent vigilante groups linked to the ruling party locking up Offices of various government agencies.

Commenting on the Ministers posture to Starr News, Executive Director of the West Africa Center for Counter Extremism, Mutaru Mumuni Mukhtar stated that if political thuggery is not controlled, it easily transforms into home-grown terrorism.

“This is not the first time that any government official or an IGP has issued instructions; we saw that in the previous government…and yet we saw vigilante violence.

“In that last eight months the political space has been monopolised by vigilante violence and yet we are not seeing anything concrete…if we don’t take care what is happening now could serve as a conveyer belt to terrorism,” Mukhtar said.
