Ghana’s National Best Farmer for 2017 Philip Kwaku Agyeman has been awarded with a whopping $100,000 and a vehicle.

The Brong Ahafo region-based farmer employs over 200 workers. He was awarded at the 33rd National Farmers’ Day Award held in Kumasi in the Ashanti region on December 1, 2017.

The National Best Farmer 2nd Runner up award went to Rebecca Commey from the Greater Accra region while the National Best Farmer 1st Runner up title went to Mabel Akoto Cudjoe (Volta region). They also went home with a vehicle each.

Speaking at the event, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo said Ghana is a blessed land with all the ingredients “not only to feed ourselves, but also to generate jobs, and create wealth and prosperity, through the modernization of and the change in attitude towards agriculture.”

“Our prescription for tackling the problems of the agricultural sector is to operationalise a comprehensive plan to enhance food security, improve farm productivity, strengthen linkages with industry and, thereby, create jobs, improve rural livelihoods and wealth for all Ghanaians,” he noted.
