Authorities and students of the Serwaa Nyarko Girls Senior High School in Dekyemso in the Ashanti region have hit the streets to protest the encroachment of school lands by an unknown developer.

According to them, the development poses a security threat to students.

Authorities of the school say, several petitions sent to the regional minister, Manhyia Palace, assembly member for the Dekyemso electoral area and the Kumasi metropolitan assembly have failed to address their concerns.

The developer, however, says the lands were given to him by the KMA Mayor, a statement which has compelled both students and school authorities to stage a demonstration against the Mayor.

Headmistress of the school, Esther Ntodwah speaking to Ultimate FM said the developer claims the mayor of Kumasi ordered him to continue with the construction of the property and will only stop if the mayor orders him to discontinue with the construction.

The president of the Student’s Representative Council of the school, Benedicta Dankwah also called on authorities to safeguard their safety, failure of which could lead to a more violent demonstration.
