The Sports Ministry has denied reports that the Accra Stadium has been shutdown for renovation works ahead of the Women’s AFCON in November.

According to the Ministry, the contractor in charge of the refurbishment works is yet to make a decision on the date for the total closure of the edifice.

The Accra Stadium has not been renovated since its reconstruction in 2007 for the hosting of the 2008 AFCON.

Meanwhile, spokesperson of the Sports Ministry, Elvis Adjei Baah says the contractors are yet to decide whether to allow Hearts and Inter Allies to use the Accra Stadium as their home venue for this season.

“The contractor is yet to decide on a total shutdown of the stadium if only it will help his work, fine but for us we can’t interfere. On the other hand if his works can accommodate matches of Accra Hearts of Oak and Inter Allies on weekends solely depends on him,” Adjei Baah told Starr Sports.
