Namibia, making their first ever appearance, scored late in their Group B clash with Cote d’Ivoire  to win 1-0 at the African Nations Championship (CHAN) in Marrakech, Morocco on Sunday.

Defender Charles Hambira scored the only goal of the game with a header just before the final whistle for Namibia, who were the more positive of the two sides.

William Togui had a great chance to put Cote d’Ivoire ahead in the second half but his shot went wide when he was well placed.

But, just as the game was heading for a 0-0 draw, Namibia were awarded a free-kick that was swung in by Riann Hanamub with Hambira getting the decisive touch to score the winner.

Cote d’Ivoire have a shot at redemption when they face Zambia on Thursday in their next fixture, the same day Namibia play Uganda.
Both games are billed for Marrakech.
