A legal practitioner with the University of Cape Coast [UCC], Dr. Kojo Tuffour has advised government as a matter of agency to provide notable public places in the country with sophisticated cameras so as to easily monitor and identify miscreants in case of attacks.

The public places, he explains should include Universities, markets, lorry centres, hospitals, churches, among others, which could easily be potential sites for attacks.

The move, he says is necessary since the sub region is increasingly becoming targets for extremists and other lawless individuals.

The recent gang attacks in the country, he adds is even enough grounds for the government to hasten in providing cameras at some notable and sensitive sites to monitor the activities of miscreants thereby boosting the country’s security.

Dr. Kojo Tuffuor blamed the recent gang attacks in the country on government’s failure to invest largely in the country’s security system.

According to him, governments over the years invest in physical security gadgets such as guns at the expense of security cameras and tracking devices which can be used in tracking criminals.

Dr. Kojo Tuffour said there is the need for government to focus on building on the technological capacity of the police force to position men and women in the service to be efficient in delivering on their mandate of protecting the citizenry.

Dr. Tuffour’s statement was in reaction to Sunday’s dawn gang attack at the Kwabenya District Police headquarters in Accra, which led to the escape of seven suspects in custody and killing a police Inspector in the line of duty.
