The Ghana Highway Authority has served notice of a temporary closure of the Buipe and Yapei bridges in the Northern region of Ghana.

The two bridges will be closed to vehicular traffic and the traveling public on Thursday 1st February, 2018 and Friday 2nd February, 2018.

The bridges according to the GPHA will be closed for six (6) hours from 1pm to 7pm each day.

This is to enable Asphalt overlay works to be carried out on the bridges.

According to a memo, the general public is hereby advised to use the following alternative routes during the period of closure:

  1. Passengers traveling along the Western Corridor are expected to use Accra-Kumasi-Techiman-Wenchi-Bamboi-Bole-Wa.
  2. Passengers traveling along the Eastern Corridor should use Accra-Tema-Assikuma-Hohoe-Jasikan-Nkwanta-Oti Damanko-Bimbila-Yendi or Accra-Tema-Assikuma-Have-Kpando-Worawora-Jasikan-Nkwanta-Oti Damanko-Bimbila-Yendi or Accra-Tema-Assikuma-Have-Kpando-Worawora-Dambai-(Ferry Crossing)-Wulensi-Bumbila-Yendi.
  3. Those traveling along Central Corridor are advised to use Accra-Kumasi-Mampong-Ejura-Atebubu-Yeji (Ferry Crossing)-Salaga or Kintampo-Techiman-Nkoranza-Ejura-Atebubu-Yeji (Ferry Crossing)-Salaga.
  4. Western/Central Corridor: Takoradi-Tarkwa-Bogosu-Ayamfuri-Dunkwa-Obuasi-Kumasi-Techiman-Wenchi-Bamboi-Bole-Wa.

“Motorist are advised to adhere to directional and safety signs that will be made available at appropriate sections,” the Ghana Highway Authority said.

The two bridges were recently closed for almost a month for rehabilitation work.
