Pope John SHS and Minor Seminary, one of the most prestigious all male second cycle schools in the country, turns 60 years.
The respected Catholic school and the 2001 winners of the “Brilliant Science and Maths Quiz Competition” is situated in Effiduase-Koforidua in the Eastern region. Pojoss is widely known for its academic and sports excellence not forgetting its high level of discipline. It climaxes its 60th anniversary with a grand durbar and a speech and prize giving day on Saturday, February 17, 2018 at exactly 9:00am in the forenoon. In attendance will be all pojoba’s, students, teaching and non-teaching staff, invited schools, traditional rulers, Effiduase-Koforidua community etc.
The grand durbar is under the chairmanship of His Grace, Most Reverend Gabriel Charles Palmer Buckle, the Metropolitan Archbishop of the Accra Catholic Diocese who is an old boy with H.E. the President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as the special guest of honour for the occasion.
Week long activities such as blood donation, clean-up exercises at the St. Joseph’s Hospital and the Regional Hospital-Koforidua, football gala competition, health screening in the Effiduase community amongst others are all CSR activities already underway.
There is a special homecoming of old boys on Friday, February 16, 2018 at 3:00pm, all Pojoba’s will converge at the Koforidua Jacksons Park with their torches in the evening. With a procession; there will be a march amidst brass band music to the Koforidua prisons park. Old boys will further move into the school premises to commence the night’s vigil. Archbishop Palmer-Buckle, Pojoba President, Dr. Charwey and the 60th anniversary planning committee chairman, Kobby Andah will lead all old boys to lit the 60th anniversary torch to commence the “Bonfire Night”. There will also be food bazaar that night on campus with joints for various year groups for hangout & social networking.
An artist/entertainment night is slated on the evening of the durbar with singing and rap performances between old boys and students as well as invited artists.
The 60th anniversary will be climaxed with a thanksgiving service on Sunday, February 18, 2018 at the schools ceremonial grounds.
