Sky Sports could be about to lose the right to show La Liga matches after screening games from the Spanish top flight for over two decades.

Pundits on the coverage are reportedly exploring new openings over concerns the current deal between the two parties will not be extended.

Sky raised their offer to £18 million-a-year three years ago when it appeared BT Sport would claim the rights to show domestic matches featuring Barcelona, Real Madrid and co.

But with costs to show Premier League football soaring, Sky have offered less than that amount this time to renew the deal, according to the Daily Mail

And their proposal has seemingly been rejected by La Liga for the package which is considered to be the most valuable outside of British shores.

However, negotiations to show Spanish football tend to drag on and it could be close to the start of next season before the situation is resolved.

BT could challenge for the coverage again but are yet to extend their deals to show Ligue 1 and Serie A matches for the 2018-19 campaign.
