The Koforidua Circuit Court ‘A’ presided over by Her Honour Janet Animah Marfo has sentenced a prison escapee, Ohene Francis, 21, to a two-year jail term.
The Convict pleaded guilty to the charge of escaping from lawful custody.
The convict escaped on April 21, 2015 when he was taken to external labour with three other inmates.
He pleaded to the prison official to allow him ease himself in the bush because he was suffering from stomach upset which the Prison officer unsuspectingly granted.
He, however, escaped and went into hiding at Suhum.
He was re-arrested in April this year, by Suhum police in connection with a stealing case and was sentenced to one month imprisonment by the Suhum Magistrate Court.
When he was brought to the Koforidua prisons to begin his sentence, he was identified by the authorities there as an escapee on a wanted list.
He was the handed over to the Koforidua Effiduase District Police Command where his caution statement was taken and charged accordingly.
Meanwhile, another fugitive who also escaped from Prison custody but recaptured a week ago is set for prosecution by the Koforidua- Effiduase District Police command.
The fugitive Charles Agyei on May 8, 2018 escaped when he and other inmates went out with a prison officer identified as Gyamfi to fetch firewood at Akwadum road.
He was serving a 10-year jail term at the Koforidua prisons.
