Chelsea have identified former boss Avram Grant as a potential successor to Antonio Conte after the club hit real problems on Thursday.

The Blues’ managerial situation has become a real issue at the club, with Antonio Conte expected to be sacked and replaced.

The Italian coach has been walking on thin ice for much of the season after a series of public outbursts and poor results.

Chelsea finished fifth in the Premier League, missing out on Champions League football, and didn’t go far in Europe either.

And there is a feeling that the pursuit of top target Maurizio Sarri has been fluffed as a result of extreme fiscally-conservative methods.

Napoli have hired Carlo Ancelotti as their new manager but have yet to terminate Sarri’s contract – meaning they have two head coaches.

As well as the managerial situation, Starsport also revealed that club owner Roman Abramovich could be looking to sell up.The billionaire owner personally took the decision to call a halt to the plans to build a new Stamford Bridge as he is unwilling to invest more money into a country where he is not permitted to work. His surprise move yesterday was interpreted as a response to being denied a new UK visa by the Home Office.
