Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia has charged the newly sworn in board of the Internal Audit Agency (IAA) to ensure that through their work the State can be positioned to use her financial resources judiciously.

Addressing the Nine Member Board of the Internal Audit Agency after swearing them in at the Jubilee House, Dr. Bawumia said Ghana as a country has no reason to misuse her resources if the vision to attain self-reliance leading to an aid free country is to be achieved.

He emphasised that the members of the board have been carefully chosen due to the sensitive nature of the IAA board.

He therefore cautioned the board to execute their functions vigorously by paying heed to the laws from where they derive their mandate.

The nine member board is chaired by a nominee of the President, Joseph B. Winful. The other members of the board are the Director General of the IAA, Ransford Adjei, Ministry of Finance representative, Samuel Danquah Arkhurst, representative of the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development, Frank Raji, Chairperson of the Public Service Commission, Janet Fofie, the Private sector has two representatives, Professor Kwame Adom Frimpong and Madam Agatha Gaisie Nkatsiah.

The last two members of the board are Christian Sottie and Fiifi Kwakye, both of which are professional Accountants.

In his response, the Chairman of the board, Joseph B. Winful, said the difficulty with the country is not a lack of systems for checks and balances, but rather the persons who have the responsible to manager the system.

He assured the Vice President that he and his colleagues will not engage in any cover ups in the discharge of their duties and that they will at all times put Ghana’s interest first.
