Hundreds of Ghanaians over the weekend took part in the Kufuor Health Walk for fitness as part of the Father’s Day celebration in Ghana.
The primary aim of the ‘Kufuor Health Walk’ was to raise funds to support the John Agyekum Kufuor Foundation aimed at promoting and sustaining development in Ghana and Africa as a whole.
Former President Kufuor who joined the teeming participants called on all to champion the campaign for development.
“I want us to feel for each other as fellow beings, we should have fellow feeling among ourselves, we are not talking politics, and in any case even if we are talking politics, politics should be about serving people and making life easy better for each and every one of us. Forget about tribe, gender, and religion the central value for us to work for is common humanity. If we do that we are okay,” the former president said.
“The John Agyekum Kufuor Foundation is spreading all over. I’m happy that today I see all of you here joining forces with the foundation to pursue the course of bettering life for people,” Mr. Kufuor said.
The JAK Foundation was established in 2009 to promote and sustain the development of Ghana and Africa. As part of efforts to sustain the foundation, an endowment fund was launched to run the foundation’s programmes.
The Endowment fund dubbed “80 for 80” campaign”, which seeks to raise GH¢80 million ($15 million) was launched earlier this year.
The foundation will provide the Kufuor Scholars Programme, Kufuor Young Entrepreneurs Network, Annual Lecture Series on Governance and Development, the Kufuor Elections Observers Group, and the Kufuor Prize for Best Community Leadership.
The health walk was organised by the foundation as part of activities to raise the fund.
Politicians, celebrities and many others came out in their numbers to support the JAK foundation walk which started from the Aviation Social Centre to Shiashie and back to the centre where participants were taken through a few exercise routines.
