At least nine persons sustained injuries and many others fled their homes during a chieftaincy clash among Nawuris at Katajale in the Kpandai district of the Northern region, the police confirmed.

The violence broke out Friday following efforts by a feuding faction to depose a queen mother enskinned last month by the chief of the village, Odikro Akwesi Kumah.

The district police commander DSP Kwesi Asante told Starr News security personnel were deployed after information that the factions had clashed with cutlasses and other lethal weapons.

According to the commander, a faction has been protesting the legitimacy of the queen mother enskinned by the local chief and tensions between them had been running high.

The melee ensured after the disgruntled faction attempted to forcibly remove the queen mother.

DSP Asante said many of the injured suffered teeth bite and were being treated at the ECG Hospital in Kpandai, the district capital.

The commander said no one has been arrested yet, assuring that the police have intensified its patrol in the area to ensure calm.
