Dansoman based  U-16 side, Great Somas, emerged champions over the weekend at the maiden edition of  the Baby Jet Under-16 tournament Promotions for Africa Academies at the Asamoah Gyan Soccer Complex in Accra Academy senior high School.

Great Somas finished off Cedar Star Academy 2-1 in the finals of the competition after walloping their colleagues from Dansoman Barcelona by 5-2 in the semi-finals

Cedar Stars also put up a spirited performance after they thrashed another tournament favourite Bolga  Soccer Masters by 2-1 to cruise to the finals.

The finals saw the diminutive Mathew Kudjo known as ‘Messi’ of Great Somax being  the toast of fans at the end of the tournament exhibiting traits of his mentor.

Kudjo who is 15, is indeed a star in the making, as his amazing skills helped  his side to become the overall winners and hopes to emulate the likes of  Black Stars skipper Asamoah Gyan in the coming future.

” I am grateful to God, for guiding me through the competition and  I hope to remain discipline to reach greater heights.My dream is to to reach the level of the Black Stars captain, Asamoah Gyan and am grateful to him for giving me this opportunity,” he told Starr Sports.

The six day event saw over sixteen teams participating  with five clubs from five other African countries who exhibited great talents and skills forcing  world acclaimed football agents to grace occasion on daily bases.

Meanwhile according to organizers they have really discovered talents for the nation and they will make sure  in the next five years these talents will be come world assets.
