At least 26 persons are injured in a near fatal road accident at Asuboi Community stretch of the Accra to Kumasi Highway.

The accident involved a fully loaded commercial Vehicle with registration number ER 1126-16 from the Kumasi direction driven by one Appiah Nyarko.

The accident also involved a private vehicle with a registration number GW 799- 15 which was also being driven by Nana Akua Akyeabea from opposite direction of Accra to Kumasi.

According to a witness, Robert Azaglo, the two vehicles collided head on.

He said, both drivers and passengers at the front seat of the commercial vehicle suffered serious injuries. All injured were rushed to the Suhum Government Hospital.

The cause of the accident is under investigations but multiple witness accounts attribute the accident to wrong overtaking.

More than 300 persons have died through road accidents in the Eastern region this year with nearly 2000 others injured.

The Accra to Kumasi Highways is a high risk accident road which records high motor traffic accident cases.
