Five persons on board an Opel Vectra taxi cab with registration number WR 4957-12 have died in a gruesome crash with a Man Diesel truck with registration number GE 8305-z on the main Kwesimintsim Asakai road.

According to police report, one Nana Kwame Addison was in charge of the Man Diesel and was driving from Aboadze in the Shama district to Elubo and upon reaching the Kwesimintsim /Asakai junction, the Opel Vectra taxi stopped for mourners to cross to the cemetery; but the speeding truck recklessly ran into the taxi.

Severely injured, the occupants of the taxi cab were then rushed to the Jemima Clinic and the Kwesimitsim hospital but were later pronounced dead.

The deceased include the driver of the Opel Vectra, a pregnant woman, two children, and a middle-aged man.

Their bodies have been deposited at the Effia Nkwanta regional mortuary for preservation and autopsy.

Many bystanders are attributing the increasing accidents on the road to lack of traffic lights and street lights on the newly constructed road.
