The Okaikwei North Municipal Assembly in Accra has suspended its observation of the 62nd Independence Day  Anniversary following violent exchanges between some youth groups in the community.

The celebration which was to take place at the Fadama Cluster of Schools today March 6, has been called off after the clashes led to the death of one person, the assembly said in a statement.

“This has become necessarily due to the simmering tensions between two youth factions which has already resulted in the death of one.

“The Municipal Assembly finds the venue for the celebration unsafe as it is within the same vicinity that the  youth groups clashed,” a statement from the Assembly and signed by the Municipal Chief Executive Boye Laryea said Tuesday night.
