Former New Juaben South Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) Comfort Asante

The Presiding Member of the New Juaben South Assembly Michael Boadi Sarpong has alleged that some GH¢78, 000, 00 has gone missing from the coffers of the Assembly.

According to him, the amount was embezzled during the administration of the immediate past Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) Comfort Asante under the guise of desilting choked gutters and sensitization exercises. It was, however, diverted into a private account.

He said attempts to get the audit committee present the 2018 audit report capturing the infraction to management to implement the audit recommendations has proven futile.

The Presiding Member revealed this when addressing the First Ordinary Meeting of the Second Session of the Assembly. He vowed to do everything possible to ensure that the perpetrators are punished to serve as a deterrent to others.

On his part, the MCE, Isaac Appaw Gyasi spoke of some initiatives being rolled out to improve revenue generation and mobilization. He further urged the Assembly Members to ensure that residents in their respective electoral areas participate in the monthly clean-up exercise.

The Member of Parliament for New Juaben South Constituency, Mark Assibey Yeboah, who was also part of the meeting announced to the Assembly that Parliament has approved 70 million Euros for the construction of a new Eastern Regional Hospital to provide tertiary healthcare for the region.

He explained that the current regional hospital will be reverted to its original status as a municipal hospital to serve the municipality.
