The Suhum Police Command has arrested a woman for allegedly abducting a seven month old baby at Asuboi in the Ayensuano District of the Eastern Region.

Suspect, Abena Mercy, was arrested at her hideout in Akyem Takyiman four days after the incident .

The suspect abducted the baby from her mother on June 12, 2019. Several search for her whereabouts proved futile.

A report was lodged at the Suhum Police station. On June 16 at about 4am, the suhum police Command based on intelligence deployed crack investigators to Akim Kwamang and Akim Takyiman respectively in search of the suspect.

When the detectives got to the house of the suspect at Akyem Kwamang, they were informed that the suspect had gone to Akim Takyiman where she lived with her husband who is an illegal miner.

The investigators proceeded to Akim Takyiman with the help of the suspect’s step-father and met the suspect with the  abducted baby girl in the suspect’s hideout.

The Complainant who was with the Police investigators identified both the baby and the suspect. She was subsequently arrested and brought to Suhum Police station where she has been detained to assist in investigation.
