A former deputy Minister of Education under the erstwhile John Mahama administration, Alex Kyeremeh has stressed the National Democratic Congress will not cancel Free SHS education if the party returns to power.

President Akufo-Addo and his appointees have constantly insisted the NDC will scrap the programme.

Addressing staff and students of the Bolgatanga Senior High School in the Upper East Region, as part of his 2-day working visit to that region, President Akufo-Addo said Ghanaians will not entrust power into the hands of the opposition National Democratic Congress in 2020 because of their determination to cancel the Free Senior High School policy.

“I know that there are people in this country who don’t want this policy, who have been campaigning against this policy. They are dreaming that they are going to come back to power to cancel the policy.

“I want them to know that they are not coming back to power, and the Free Senior High School policy has come to stay. They still haven’t woken up from their dreams; they dreamt in 2016 that they were on course for victory. They did not know that the Ghanaian people were no longer interested in entrusting them with power. They still haven’t woken up from their dreams,” the President said.

However, reacting to the president’s comment, Mr. Kyeremeh said the NDC has no intention of cancelling the programme since they are also benefiting from it.

Speaking to Dadi FM on Wednesday he said he is also benefiting from the programme although he can afford to pay his child’s school fees.
