The Coalition of Unemployed Nurses has called on the Police to release their colleagues who have been arrested after they picketed in Accra today.

“Our protest was lawful so we don’t know why they had to arrest our people. We informed the police about three weeks ago and we didn’t hear any response from them so we had to stage our protest.

“Our colleagues are currently at the Central Police station. There are four males and one female. The other person is a senior who was solidarising with us,” one of the leaders of the group Paul Selorm told Starr News Monday.

In an earlier statement, the group said: “The Ghana police have arrested 6 of our members include a convenor of the group who led this protest at the ministry of health. Information available indicates that they have been send to the central police station in Accra.

“We are calling on the Ghana police service and the minister in charge of national security to release our members within 24hrs or face the wrath of we the unemploy nurses across the country. We are by this release calling on our members to remain calm for more updates and further direction on this unfortunate incident. We can confirm to members that six (6) of our members including the convenor of the Graduate unemploy nurses and Midwives have been arrested by the Ghana police and have been send to the central police station in Accra. The arrest of our members is an attack on students right freedom”.
