Veteran journalist and diplomat Alhaji Haruna Atta has chided Communications Minister Ursula Owusu Ekuful over her brothel comment.
The minister while reacting to concerns by MP Cassiel Ato Forson over her call for telcos to stop taxing the Communication Service Tax (CST), said she “” If I want lessons in good morals, I will certainly not go to the brothel for it”.
Commenting on the development, the immediate past Ghana’s ambassador to Namibia told Bola Ray that the minister’s words were offensive and inappropriate.
“I’ve seen and read the letter to the Ranking Member in which she stated if she needs advice she won’t go a brothel. You can’t say this under our Coat of Arms, you don’t have the right to use that language under our Coat of Arms. It is a sacrosanct thing that is why it is restricted to the Ministry, Presidency.
“…This is offensive, extremely so and to a Ranking Member of our sovereign Parliament, we shouldn’t do that. We should start minding our language. You don’t misbehave with our Coat of Arms,” Haruna Atta fumed.
Meanwhile, the former deputy finance minister in reaction said: “Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.”
He maintained his position in his earlier letter that it is wrong for the minister to be giving directives to telcos on how to collect the tax.
