The 21-year-old mentally deranged man shot by a Police officer on guard duty at Akyem New Tafo branch of Ghana Commercial Bank has been confirmed dead.

Ishmael Sani died Wednesday at the Ridge Hospital in Accra having been referred from St. Joseph Hospital in Koforidua.

The deceased was shot in the thigh by a Police Officer Monday, November 11, 2019, during a violent attempt to disarm the officer.

The deceased was reportedly notorious for brandishing cutlass, going on rampage in town and invading bank premises to cause commotions.

On the said day, he violently advanced towards the officer to forcibly take away his service Ak47 riffle but he shot at close range after minutes of struggle.

Speaking to Starr News, the Akyem Tafo District Police Commander, Chief Superintendent Isaac Obeng Dompreh indicated that, investigations are ongoing and that many eyewitnesses have testified.

He said the report will be sent to the Regional Police Headquarters in Koforidua for a decision to be taken.

Meanwhile, the bereaved family is corporating with the Police for the necessary arrangement to hand over the body after autopsy for burial.
