Manchester City secured their spot in the Champions League knockout stages after they played to a 1-1 draw against Shakhtar Donetsk at the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday night.

Ilkay Gundogan found the back of the net for Manchester City in the second half before Shakhtar Donetsk’s Manor Soloman put a damper on the hosts and scored the equaliser 13 minutes into the contest.

City’s manager Pep Guardiola has led his side to the knockout stages of the Champions League in four consecutive seasons.

City’s opportunities were limited despite their control of much of the play. Raheem Sterling shot wide but his shot happened to be offside.

Joao Cancelo curled a shot wide and Nicolas Otamendi headed at Andriy Pyatov before shooting over from 30 yards. Gundogan also had an effort deflected wide.

Dodo was on top form in the defence for City and was in support of Solomon as he went on to score the equaliser after coming off the bench.

Fernandinho was booked for a challenge later on in the game and has been ruled off through suspension ahead of December’s game against Zagreb.
