About 119 parliamentary Aspirants in Ashanti region have filed nomination forms to contest the upcoming New Patriotic Party (NPP), parliamentary primaries in the region.

Seven (7) of them are females while, six (6) of the incumbent MP’s are contesting unopposed including Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu, Deputy Minister of Education Dr Yaw Adutwum MP for Bosomtwe constituency and Education Minister Dr Mathew Opoku Prempeh among others.

The party’s decision for female incumbent MP’s to contest unopposed didn’t hold as all the female MP’s in the region are being contested contrary to the party’s earlier regional and national position.

The Ashanti regional organizer of the Party, Francis Adomako, disclosed, only Mavis Nkasah Boadu, Member of Parliament for Afigya Sekyire East constituency is contesting unopposed among all the incumbent MP’s in the region.

Mr. Adomako added, the party might not be able to follow the national vetting program because of the party’s preparation for the national Independence celebration to be hosted in the region.

Meanwhile, a three-member committee made up of former Minister of Defence Dr Kwame Addo Kuffour, Peter Mac Manu and Cecilia Abena Dapaah has been instituted to address concerns of aspirants who will be disqualified by the vetting committee.
