Physician’s Assistant Students Association (PASAG) of Ghana has honoured Francis Owusu-Akyaw, an aspiring Member of Parliament for the Juaben Constituency in the Ashanti region for his contributions toward the welfare of the group

The association’s annual week celebration held at Asante Akyem Agogo over the weekend was graced Mr. Kwadwo Baah Agyemang former member of Parliament for the Asante Akyeam Agogo, Dr. Kofi Akpaloo, Joseph Osei Ameyaw both presidential among other dignities.

Addressing the event, the immediate past President of (PASAG) Francis Appiah singled out abd praised Francis Owusu-Akyaw for always responding promptly to the needs of the association both with his presence and resources.

This he said, motivated the Association, past and present leadership, to honour him with the citation which read “This citation is presented to you as a token of appreciation from PASAG- National for continuing effort in developing the association. As we show our appreciation today; we do so knowing that an example of true character and virtue has been shown for us follow; a seed which has to be nurtured to its fruition. You are not only a political personality but a father and a leader as well. We will always be grateful for your support and kindness. Your contribution to the success of our week celebrations can never be overemphasized. You have and will continue to be a great influence on us”.

Francis Owusu-Akyaw, who was pleased with the honour commended the association past and present leaders for recognizing his efforts towards the development and sustainability of the association.

Addressing the gathering at the PASAG National week Celebration with theme: Achieving SDG3: THE ROLE OF THE PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT STUDENTS which reads ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages.

Mr. Francis Akyaw said, in September 2015 the United Nations General Assembly formally adopted the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, along with a set of 17 bold new Global Goals to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure prosperity for all.

Each goal, he said, has specific targets to be achieved in the next years until 2030. The UN Sustainable Development Goals constitute a universal, integrated and transformative vision for a sustainable world.

He said, for the goals to be reached, the UN General Secretary has called on everyone to do their part: governments, the private sector and civil society.

He added, the Physician Assistants profession started in 1969 in Ghana and currently serves over 70% of our population in Ghana and plays a key role in Primary health delivery in Ghana but are been faced with numerous challenges.

“Mr Chairman, I personally believe physician Assistants Students also have a special role to play in aiding Ghana to achieve SDG3, through using any medium they get to educate Ghanaians on Healthy lifestyle (importance of Exercise, eating healthy and balanced diet, drinking of enough water daily,etc), preventive measures and modern efficient healthcare for everyone in the country,’’ he stressed.

He entreated PASAG students to take their studies serious in other to become responsible health Physician assistance.

“ Mr. Chairman, before I retire to my seat, I will encourage all PASAG national students present, to take their studies or education serious because this is the best Cocoa Farm your parents can leave behind for you and not to joke with their studies’’.
