The normally busy markets in the Upper East Region have all been shut following the national disinfection exercise by the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development in collaboration with waste management company Zoomlion Ghana Limited.

The exercise which will see 105 markets being disinfected is part of efforts by the government to curb the spread of the COVID-19.

Speaking at the start of the exercise in Bolgatanga, Chief Executive for the area Joseph Amiyuuri urged traders and other business people to stay home in other to make the exercise a success.

He indicated that the exercise will help in supporting the assembly in its efforts to make the regional capital clean.

Mr Amiyuuri who spoke to starrfm.com.gh on the sidelines of the exercise said, “this exercise also gives us an opportunity to enforce our sanitation laws as people now know what living in unsanitary conditions can do to us. We will liaise more with other stakeholders to ensure people abide by the laws”.
