The New Patriotic Party’s Parliamentary Candidate for the Ketu South constituency David Tiano has donated food and some assorted items worth Gh¢40,000 to the aged in his constituency.

The items which included bags of corn, 1500 packs of mosquito coil, 750 boxes of matches were distributed to 30 persons in each of the 39 electoral areas in the Ketu South constituency on Wednesday.

According to Mr. Tiano, the donation is part of his contribution towards the alleviation of hunger at a time that several people are struggling to survive as a result of the closure of the Ghana-Togo border.

“This my own contribution towards the alleviation of hunger at a time that the border has been closed. The closure has come with some implications because it is the main source of livelihood for our people and so, it’s important we run to their aid,” he noted.

Mr. Tiano also called on government expedite efforts in bringing relief items to residents of the border communities.

“I am also adding my voice to the calls being made by residents in my constituency and beyond to ask government to quicken efforts towards the provision of such relief items that can sustain them.

It’s not everyone that needs support but there are people who are less resourced especially at this time and so, we continue to pray that government runs to their rescue before it is too late because, the closure is an indirect lockdown for our people as well.”

The closure of the Ghana-Togo border is said to have led to job losses especially, for persons who engage in ‘kayaye’ and other economic activities along the border to feed their households.

Meanwhile, the Assemblyman for the Adafienu Electoral Area, David Egloh told Starrfm.com.gh that the Municipal Assembly is collating names of persons who need such supports to be forwarded to Accra for further action.

He noted that, the donations being made by individuals like David Tiano is an intervention ahead of any support that may be coming from government, while adding that, “there are people [aged], who also mend fishing net at the shores but the recent pandemic has take them out of job as well a do so they’ve also come to add to the numbers that need some support at the moment.”
