Thirteen (13) constituency executives of the ruling New Patriotic Party in Nkawkaw of the Eastern Region, have declared their “unalloyed support” for Eric Kwakye Darfour the incumbent Member of Parliament for the Constituency.

The decision according to the constituency executives was taken at a constituency Executive Committee Meeting after consultation with constituents living both within and outside the Political jurisdiction.

“We the undersigned thirteen (13) constituency executives, with the mandate to direct the affairs of the party rightfully, and with a broader consultation with constituents within and outside our political traditional, pledge our unalloyed support for the candidature of the sitting Member of Parliament and Eastern Regional Minister Hon. Eric Kwakye Darfour, for the impending Primaries (when the date is confirmed) and the December 7, 2020, General Election,” they said in a statement issued April 26, 2020, signed by the thirteen executives excluding the Constituency Chairman.

The constituency executives explained further that “our reason is premised on his Focus, Excellent, and Matured Leadership being exhibited at the constituency and in the Region as the Representative of H.E Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo, the President of the Republic of Ghana. We firmly believe, and same is true that for the overwhelming majority in the constituency that, the massive infrastructural projects that have started since January 2017 under his stewardship, required uninterrupted continuation and consolidation to transform completely, the deficit we have lived with all these three years”

The incumbent Member of Parliament, Eric Kwakye Darfour is keenly being contested in the Parliamentary Primaries by two former MPs for the area -Seth Agyei Baa and Okechire Adusei as well as three others- Joyce Opoku Boateng (Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Middle Belt Authority), David Asante Boateng (Managing Director of Ghana Publishing Company) and Joseph Frimpong a Business Man.

The Nkawkaw seat is one of the strongholds of the NPP since 1992 though in 2008 the party lost it to an Independent candidate, Seth Agyei Baa, who eventually joined the NPP.

The constituency executives say, the declaration of their unflinching and unalloyed support has the inductive effect and it is “expected to ripple positively throughout the party’s structure, and conserve our energies on the task of winning greater effective votes, come 7th December 2020, than expending same internally”
