The West Akyem Municipal Assembly in the Eastern Region has donated Personal Protective Equipment(PPE) and other items to the Municipal Health Directorate to help contain the spread of coronavirus in the Municipality.

The Municipality has recorded one confirmed case of coronavirus where 55 health workers were exposed to due to lack of PPE. All the 55 health workers have tested negative for the virus.

The Municipal Assembly on Thursday donated 1100 pieces of disposal gloves,10 pairs of Gumboots,40 pieces of N95 face with a respirator, 4 Infrared thermometer guns 200 pieces of locally made face masks, 10 reusable gowns,10 pieces of face shield, and 20 dustbin containers to the health directorate.

Other items donated include a refrigerator, microwave and a Television set to be installed at the Isolation Centre.

The Municipal Chief Executive for West Akyem, Seth Oduro, who presented the items on behalf of the Assembly commended health Workers in the municipality for their relentless effort at helping to contain the spread of coronavirus.

The Municipal Health Director, Dr Samuel Boateng who received the items thanked the MCE and the Assembly for the timely intervention. He said since the Municipality recorded a case, efforts have been made to establish an Isolation centre which then requires the availability of PPE to take care of the patient and handle other suspected cases.

He urged stakeholders to help in sensitising residents to adhere to all the COVID-19 preventive subscriptions.
