Ghana Immigration Service has arrested and repatriated eighteen Ivorians and a Burkinabe who used unapproved routes into the country.

The foreigners upon entering the country wanted to move from the Western Region to parts of the Ashanti Region but were arrested upon intelligence.

Empire FM’s Emmanuel Ohene Gyan reports that the GII has stepped up their surveillance and patrols by engaging community members to identify more unapproved routes in and out of the country.

“The immigration service and NADMO are policing all these unapproved routes,” he said.

Information reaching starrfm.com.gh indicates that foreigners use the River Tano in and out of the country but Immigration officers have beefed up their operations by using boats, canoes, among others to patrol.

This development brings the total of foreign nationals arrested for entering the country illegally during the Covid-19 pandemic to 190.
