Pollster Ben Ephson has countered claims by the New Patriotic Party that President Akufo-Addo has not started campaigning for the December polls.

He says the president has over the past one and half years been campaigning, contrary to claims by Deputy Information Minister Pius Hadzide that the president is yet to start campaigning.

NDC flagbearer John Mahama was of the view that President Akufo-Addo’s working visits to the various regions was a campaign in disguise.

He also accused the president of using incumbency advantage by using state resources for his campaign.

Ben Ephson, however, notes  President Akufo-Addo cannot be accused of abusing incumbency even though he has been campaigning.

He told Regina Borley Bortey on the ‘Campaign Trail’ “the fact that an incumbent government can lose shows there’s a limit to what money can do. Because there’s a limit to how many times a president in power should be able to generate money, fund his campaign. The fact that incumbents have lost, tells you there’s a limit. You may have money but you may not know how to use it.”

“I think that Pius is missing the point. The president, I believe within the last one and a half years as been campaigning. My point is, he is campaigning. There is nothing anybody can do but it depends on how excessive or otherwise the president is campaigning.”
