The ruling New Patriotic Party is accusing the opposition NDC of pretending to love Zongo communities in the country, claiming they are only regarded as voter communities.
This comes after claims that the flagbearer of the NDC John Mahama has promised to build mortuaries for Zongo communities, an allegation the party has denied.
Addressing the promises on Zongo communities on the Morning Starr Wednesday, a member of the NPP’s communication team Patrio Faisal said “the NDC doesn’t even know the number of Zongos we have in Ghana. Currently, we have more than 3000 Zongos.”
He maintained “the sad part is, the NDC has always regarded the Zongo as a voter community and created the impression that the Zongos love NDC but the NDC doesn’t love the Zongos.”
The NDC in its manifesto promised to pay Arabic teachers monthly allowances, adding that the party will fund the Zongo development and development in Deprived Urban Settlements, through the District Assembly Common Fund (DACF).
Also, Mr Faisal insisted “we promised that we were going to set up a Zongo development fund and as we speak, the fund has been created”.
Highlighting achievements of the NDC as regards Zongo communities Member of the NDC communication team Alhaji Mohammed Nazirurevealed that his party transformed many of the Makarantas into brick and mortar classrooms –
“There’s no single Zongo in Ghana that has not benefitted from the infrastructure development by the NDC. We made the Zongo’s part of our political party so we move forward together,” he added.
