The Volta regional directorate of the Nation Builders Corps (NABCO) has donated assorted items to the cured lepers village located in the regional capital of Ho.

The donation which was done over the week was done to mark the 2nd year anniversary of the inception of the Nation Builders Corps by government.

The items included toiletries, soft drinks, washing detergents, Dettol, packs of food and an undisclosed amount of cash.

Presenting the items, the regional director of NABCO, Davis Lovely, called on the public not to stigmatize the cured lepers as they remain part of society.

“We are doing this donation to mark the 2nd anniversary of the introduction of NABCO by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, but more so, to show some love and affection to this society of cured lepers,” he said.

“It is however sad, that as a bigger society, we turn to neglect these people, stigmatize them and make them feel unwanted and forgotten. They are human beings and are part of us, they must be part of government policies and plans but most importantly, those of us who are closer to this facility must find reasons to always come and support them in any way we can.”

The Ho cured lepers village was established in 2006 by an NGO, Cured Lepers Foundation. The facility currently houses over 75 cured lepers and some other relatives.

In recent times, life at the facility has become unbearable for inhabitants since donations have seized following the outbreak of the novel Coronavirus, a phenomenon that has forced administrators of the facility to be making public appeals for food and other essential products.
