A Police Constable known as Yelnona Eugene of the National Protection Unit (NPU) has allegedly died by suicide.

According to reports, the Police Officer was on duty when the incident.

A Police statement said investigations have already commenced to unravel the circumstances of his death.

Constable Yelnona was reportedly part of a team providing security at the residence of a Togolese opposition leader, Gilcrest Olympio who is resident in Ghana.

He is believed to have shot himself in the washroom of the opposition leader on the dawn of Monday, February 1, 2021.

The incident comes few days after the Half Assini District Police Commander in the Western Region Superintendent Cepram McCarthy Zenge shot himself dead leaving behind a suicide note.

The note read: “I’m fed up in this world”.

Western Regional Police public relations officer DSP Olivia Ewurabena Tawiah Adiku who confirmed the story to Empire News’ Emmanuel Ohene-Gyan said the Regional Police Commander DCOP Felix Fosu Agyemang who was in the company of other senior police officers to the scene has commenced investigations into the matter.
