About three hundred (300) pupils and Teachers of Mfranor Presbyterian Basic School in the Ayensuano District of the Eastern Region have been displaced by a violent rainstorm that ripped off the entire school building Tuesday evening.

The rainstorm which hit the Community at about 7:00pm on March 23, 2021 ripped off roofs of class one to class six.

The KG block was crushed by a fallen tree causing damage to the building.

The incident has disrupted academic work.

School authorities are appealing for urgent help.

Meanwhile, officials of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) have visited the school for assessment.

The Eastern Region has recorded many devastating rainstorm this month which have caused destruction to buildings.

Over hundred houses and schools have been ripped off by rainstorms this month in parts of the Eastern Region.

In Fanteakwa South District for instance, some teachers at Nsutem Senior High School were displaced after the teachers’ bungalow was ripped off.

Items such as household properties, books and other documents belonging to the affected teachers were soaked in rainwater.

A rainstorm also ripped off a portion of the main Assembly Hall of the School.

In Yilo Krobo, some 40 houses and the main market of Klo Agogo community were ripped off.

At least one person sustained very serious injury after he was struck by a flying roofing sheet.

According to the Assembly Member for Klo Agogo, Harold Kuma, the rainstorm occurred on a market day when hundreds of traders and farmers were trading.

He said, the rainstorm ripped off the market sheds and carried away the roofs to far places causing complete pandemonium as the traders ran helter-skelter for safety.

In Asene Manso Akroso District, a rainstorm ripped off the roof of the dining hall, Girls Dormitory, girls bathroom, girls and boys urinal and the computer laboratory.

Two students reportedly collapsed during the pandemonium caused by the rainstorm disaster.

Asunafo community in Atiwa West District was also hit by rainstorm recently causing damage to many houses. Presbyterian Basic School in the community was also affected .

Meanwhile, some 65 residents in Akutuase a farming community in Atiwa East were also displaced after their houses were ripped off.
