Suspected armed robbers have gunned down a military man on the Pran-Kintampo road in the Bono East region after he bumped into an ongoing robbery operation.

The robbers who felt threatened by the presence of the office Sergeant Odei Kwame, stationed in Sunyani, chased and killed him.

The officer is reported to have been traveling to Yeji and ran into the robbery Prang-Kintampo road as travelers were under siege.

Police in the area say patrols have been intensified to capture the perpetrators.

Speaking to Starr News, Yeji police district chief commander DSP Eric Awiadem said  “whiles the soldier was running away, there was one armed robber who was ahead of him and fired at him but the bullet missed him so he had to stop. So, they marched him back to where his car was parked, they beat him again and finally one of them shot him and he died at the scene”.

He added, “when my men got to the scene, the armed robbers had already fled into the bush, so we had to call the surrounding villages that they should be on the lookout if they see people with suspicious movements they should alert the police to go for their arrest.”

He ended by saying “no one has been arrested, but we are still pursuing them to get them arrested”.

The commander revealed that vehicular, motorbike patrols and barriers have been intensified to clamp down on robbery in the area.
