The Chief Executive Officer of Ghana Integrated Aluminum Development Company (GIADEC) Michael Ansah, says the Green Ghana initiative by government will create a culture of environmental stewardship among Ghanaians.

He said conservation of the environment is a shared responsibility hoping that the initiative will reinforce and arouse responsibility among Ghanaians to help achieve environmental sustainability.

“We want to create a culture of protecting our environment that is the vision of the President .A culture that protects the environment, that ensures Protection of trees, protection of vegetation is something that is ingrained among Ghanaians. This vision very much accords with what GIADEC is doing “.Michael Ansah said when he led entourage from GIADEC to support Forestry Commission and the Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Council to plant trees to replenish the depleted vegetation in the Akyebi enclave as part of the Green Ghana Project on Friday June 11, 2021.

The Chief Executive Officer of GIADEC Michael Ansah said the green Ghana Day initiative syncs with the sustainable environmental policy of GIADEC in its operational areas -Kyebi,Nyinahin and Awaso.

“Because of the work that we do will impact certain areas of Ghana like the Atewa Forest , Nyinahin,Awaso, we want to make sure that we build a culture of Environmental protection. We want to make sure that we adopt global best practices. Afforestation will be absolutely key in everything that we do. We will make sure that we live a legacy of good ”

Okogyeaman Apegya Ofori – Kyebi Apapamhene also Okyeman Amantuomiensahene in charge of Okyeman Environmental taskforce on behalf of Okyenhene Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin said the overlord distributed 5000 trees to all Divisional chiefs to plant with their subjects to revegetate the traditional area.

“Okyenhene has distributed 5000 trees to the divisional chiefs to plant and educate the Communities on he need to plant trees and conserve the environment”

According to him, the Okyeman Environmental Taskforce will continue to protect the environment from water pollution, illegal mining and chainsawing activities despite the arduous nature of the work, to complement the government’s effort.

Augustina Nartey, the Abuakwa South Municipal Health Director said quality environment has positive impact on quality health of the people, therefore, the health service supports the initiative by government stating that it would help prevent many environmental-related health issues

The Kyebi District Forestry officer Emmanuel Antwi explained that most of the trees were planted on reclaimed mining sites to restore the vegetation and ensure that the lands become suitable for agriculture.

He said the plants will be natured to ensure it grows to achieve the intended environmental results.

Over Five million trees were planted during the maiden observation of Green Ghana Day.

President of Ghana Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, Vice President Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia, the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, and the Chief Justice, Kwasi Anin Yeboah, all took part in the tree planting exercise.
