Police in the Volta region and the Narcotics Control Commission have seized some 9,752 slabs of cannabis, projected to cost GHS4.87 million.

The product was intercepted in the Volta regional capital, Ho during a joint operation in the early hours of Tuesday while being conveyed in a Mercedes Benz truck with registration number GC 3690-09 which has an inscription: “HASKY 1,” at the back.

According to Mr. Francis Opoku Amoah, Head of Communications at NACOC the interception of the substance was as a result of months of intelligence work done by the commission on the production and distribution of cannabis within the Volta region.

The cannabis which was packed in 128 sacks was being transported from Dzameni in the South Dayi District of the Volta region through the capital towards the southern part of the region.

Mr. Opoku Amoah further stated that investigations have began into the issue.
