Kumasi Asante Kotoko has chosen Ismail Abdul Ganiyu to spearhead the team as the new captain. The defender replaces former high profile goalkeeper Felix Annan who left the club at the end of last season’s Ghana Premier League.

This appointment follows his two years contract extension that would see him at the club until 2023.

Reacting to the decision, the Black Stars defender expressed his gratitude for the club’s confidence in him via his official twitter handle.

“Another platform to enjoy the teaming support of the Red Army and most importantly putting on the famous Red shirt. I also take this opportunity to whole heartedly accept the new responsibility placed on me as a leader at Asante Kotoko”

After making just one appearance last two seasons due to injury, Ismeal Abdul Ganiyu bounced backed competitively last season by winning himself 33 appearances and ended up as the club’s fourth top scorer.

He has earned himself another feat as a Black Stars player after getting a  series of call ups recently and being the successor of the arguably best goalkeeper of the decade in Ghana, speaks volume about his potentials.

He would be assisted by goalkeeper Razak Abalora and Salifu Mudasiru as first and second deputy captains respectively.

Abdul Ganiyu would commence his new role during the club’s pre-season tour in the United Arab Emirates.
