Ghana’s record holder, Abeiku Jackson has bagged Ghana’s first medal in the ongoing CANA African Swimming Championship in Bukom, Ghana.

With a time of 53.98s, he finished third in the men’s 100m Butterfly final on Tuesday evening behind Algeria’s Syoud Jaouad and South Africa’s Guy Brooks who finished first and second with a time of 52.89s and 53.91s respectively.

Jackson took the lead in the beginning of the race but found himself behind the Algerian after the tumble turns at the other end of the pool. It was nearly 5meters to the end of the race, when Brooks overtook the second position which left Abeiku with the only option of settling for a bronze medal

Prior to the race, Abeiku had won in the preliminary stage earlier in the day with a convincincing time of 53.88s.

His next move would be the 50m men’s Butterfly race which is scheduled for Wednesday at the Bukom International pool.
