The National Labour Commission has described the ongoing strike by Health Service Workers as illegal.

According to the commission, the aggrieved workers failed to notify them about the industrial action.

The Health Service Workers declared a strike after they claimed the government failed to meet an ultimatum to improve their working conditions.

Speaking to Naa Deedei Tettey on Starr Today, Executive Secretary of the National Labour Commission, Ofosu Asamoah said, “I know they said they are going into a meeting with Prof in Winneba. But you know, they were supposed to inform us, and they haven’t. So, it’s nothing but an illegal strike”.

He indicated “The accountant, the laboratory professionals have dissociated themselves from the strike, so this one it’s quite nice, it is only the media hype that is giving them the attention. They don’t deserve the attention”.

Meanwhile, a meeting was held on Tuesday, October 26, 2021, between the Employment and Labour Ministry and the Health Services Workers Union (HSWU) resulted in a deadlock.

The purpose of the meeting was for members of the union, the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission, the Health Ministry, as well as the Controller and Accountant General’s Department to discuss the concerns raised by the workers.

The workers began nationwide strike action on Tuesday in protest of unfavorable working conditions that have left many patients stuck at public health institutions.
