The Member of Parliament for Asuogyaman , Thomas Ampem Nyarko , has cut sod for construction of a modern Health Center at New Powmu a deprived community in the Constituency.

The facility will have Male and Female wards, Labour ward , reception, dressing and injection room, Consulting room ,changing room, washroom and records.

The project expected to be completed within six months would provide residents access to quality primary healthcare solving the challenge of traveling long distance to VRA hospital for basic healthcare services.

Addressing residents during a Sod-cutting ceremony for commencement of the Project ,the Asuogyaman MP, Thomas Ampem Nyarko reiterated his commitment to achieving universal health coverage for his constituents hence the continuous investment and lobbying in that respect .

Speaking to the media , Mr. Ampem Nyarko said “for a number of years now the Community have been craving for a health facility to improve accessibility.

“I recall when I was DCE they brought a request they need to support them build a clinic .They actually started with a foundation but for so many years they’ve not been able to continue so I see decided to take it up upon myself to look for funding to construct the clinic for them and fortunately I got some friends who agreed that they will support me financially to put up the clinic “.

The lawmaker stated that, stakeholders will take charge of furnishing of the health center and make it operational .

“The agreement we had is that between my office , district Directorate of health and the company supporting we will put our heads together so that by the time the structure is completed with all the finishing we see how we will furnish the place and make it operational .The District health Directorate will bring staff here to provide the services.This is going to be the best health center in Asuogyaman ,apart from the hospital we have in Akosombo ”

The District Chief Executive Samuel Kwame Agyekum who was present at the event said the project is a laudable intervention hence personally facilitated the preparation of building permit within 48 hours to ensure the facility is completed on time.

On her part ,the Asuogyaman District Health Director Rebecca Dede Bantey assured that competent clinicians will be posted to the facility as Soon as completed to deliver quality healthcare to the people .

Government of Ghana is striving to achieve Universal Health Coverage (UHC),but financing issues remain a challenge.

To address this issue, Ghana hosted a Health Financing Forum in 2019, under the theme, “Sustainable Health Financing for Universal Health Coverage (UHC).”

At the forum, Ghana identified Primary Health Care (PHC) as one of the key strategies to achieve UHC by 2030.
