The Minority in Parliament says President Akufo-Addo’s use of a luxurious private jet on his latest trip is a mark of insensitivity to the plight of Ghanaians.

According to the NDC MPs, the decision by the President to once again embark on his 10-day trips to some European countries and Guyana on a chartered luxurious private jet at a time when the government is seeking to introduce E-Levy is the highest level of disregard for the sufferings of the masses.

Speaking to the media in Parliament Friday, the Minority spokesperson on Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa revealed the President is spending over 4 million cedis on his trip.

“We have called this engagement to register our revulsion, our very strong opposition for the President’s continuous contemptuous and insensitivity conduct in chartering an ultra-luxurious executive jet when Ghana has a presidential jet which is in pristine condition.

“The shocking irony is that this latest conduct of the President happened at a time only yesterday when thousands of Ghanaians were in the street demonstrating against the regressive, the obnoxious and dreaded E-levy. Many Ghanaians are saying that this is a government that does not like to be accountable,” he disclosed.

In a sharp rebuttal, Deputy Majority Leader Alexander, Afenyo-Markin accused the Minority of engaging in needless populism.

According to the Effutu MP, the E-Levy is a game-changer that must be embraced by all. The board chairman for the road fund disclosed the fund is depleted.
