League leaders Kumasi Asante Kotoko got stunned today at the Nduom Sports complex by Elmina Sharks who came from a goal down to get their third win of the season.

The Porcupines began on a good note with their usual possessive game but the Elmina Sharks goalkeeper, Joseph Essam was up to the task with some crucial saves before letting one slide.

George Mfuege received a quick throw from Augustine Agyapong on the 37th minute, teared away from his marker and laid an accurate pass on the path of an unmarked Dickson Afoakwa, who finished it off.

However, Elmina Sharks responded quickly five minutes later where Ebenezer Boadu was found at the end of a freekick to slot home the equalizer with a fine header.

Ten minutes into the second half, Elmina Sharks capitalized on another opportunity which resulted in a penalty. The penalty was initially saved by Ibrahim Danlad but in an appropriate way which gifted the Sharks a chance to retake it. Mustapha Alhaji sent Danlad Ibrahim the wrong way on his second attempt to put the Sharks in front.

Kotoko mounted more pressure on the Sharks but their defence were prepped enough to contain the threats from Etouga, Richmond Lamptey and the likes.

One of Etouga’s efforts was blocked by Prince Kpodo’s arm which presented Kotoko an opportunity to also restore parity from the spot on the 94th minute mark but again joseph Essam read the legs of Frank Etouga so well and palmed it aside.

The win is now the Elmina Sharks third consecutive win over Kumasi Asante Kotoko following last season’s back to back wins in the Ghana Premier League.

The win however, does not affect the league table as Kotoko remains top of the table with 33 points with an outstanding match between Accra Hearts of Oak while Elmina Sharks remain bottom of the league 11 points.
